This is the first time I’ve ever made anything Halloween related, and it was an absolute blast! I had never even tried making a pumpkin head costume before this year, but I thought it would be fun to try something new for Halloween. So here we go!
I used the following supplies:
Pumpkin Head Pattern
Black fabric paint
Fabric glue
Scissors
Ruler
Pencil
Felt
Hot Glue Gun
Step 1 – Make Your Pumpkin Head
The pattern provided with the kit has you cut out two pieces of fabric that are each about 6 inches wide by 10 inches long. The top piece of fabric should be folded in half lengthwise. You want to fold the fabric in half so that there is no raw edge showing. This way, when you sew the fabric together, you won’t get any frayed edges.
After folding the fabric in half, lay it flat and trace around the template onto the fabric. If you don’t have tracing paper, just trace directly onto the fabric.
Cut out the fabric.
Step 2 – Make the Face
Start by drawing a face on the front side of the fabric. It doesn’t matter if the face looks realistic or not; all that matters is that it fits well over the pumpkin head costume.
Use a ruler to measure where the eyes, nose, mouth, and chin should be placed. Draw these marks on the fabric. Cut out the fabric around the outline.
Use the same process to create the other side of the face.
Step 3 – Sew the Fabric Together
Sew the two sides of the fabric together at the seam line. When sewing the fabric together, leave a small opening so that you can turn the pumpkin head costume right-side out later.
Step 4 – Turn the Pumpkin Head Right Side Out
Turn the pumpkin head costume right side out through the hole you left earlier. Press the seams open.
Step 5 – Add Details
Add details to the pumpkin head costume such as flowers, vines, etc. Using black fabric paint, paint the inside of the pumpkin head costume. Let the paint dry completely before moving on to the next step.
Step 6 – Attach the Hat
Attach the hat to the pumpkin head costume using fabric glue. Use enough glue to hold the hat securely in place.
Step 7 – Iron the Fabric
Iron the fabric to give it more texture.
Step 8 – Paint the Pumpkin Head
Once the fabric is dry, apply another coat of fabric paint. Allow the paint dry completely before proceeding.
Step 9 – Apply Starch
Spray the entire surface of the fabric with a little bit of cornstarch. Carefully brush on a thin layer. Wait until the starch dries completely before proceeding.
Apply another coat of fabric paint to the back of the pumpkin head costume.
Step 10 – Create the Hair
Using the hair pattern included with the kit, cut out four strips of felt. Fold them in half lengthwise. Unfold the strips and press along the crease lines.
Apply hot glue to one end of each strip of felt. Starting from the bottom, attach the felt to the pumpkin head costume. Continue attaching felt to the pumpkin head costume until you reach the top.
When finished, trim off any excess felt.
Step 11 – Finish Up
If desired, add some buttons or beads to the top of the pumpkin head costume. You could also use ribbon instead of felt.
That’s it! Now you have a cute Halloween decoration!
Adding Depth to the pumpkin head costume
Pumpkin faces are cute little creatures that most people love. They are made of a soft material, and they can be carved into different shapes. A pumpkin head costume can be decorated with any kind of pattern or design. When the pumpkin is cut open, the inside looks like a big mouth. The inside of a pumpkin is hollow, and it gives off an airy feeling.
Pumpkin carving is fun for Halloween! You can make your own pumpkin head costume or buy them ready made. When making your own, use a sharp knife to cut out the eyes, nose, mouth, etc. Make sure you do not cut too deep as this may cause the pumpkin head costume to split open. Use a ruler to measure the size of your pumpkin.
Cut the top off first and then scoop out the insides. Smooth out any rough edges using sandpaper if necessary. Cover the bottom of the pumpkin head costume with newspaper. Place the pumpkin head costume upside down on the newspaper and fill the hole with water. Leave overnight to soak up excess moisture. Remove the pumpkin head costume from the water and wrap it in plastic wrap.
Let sit until completely dry. Peel away the plastic wrap. Glue the lid onto the pumpkin head costume. Paint the eyes and face with black paint. Use a marker to draw the features on the face.

A pumpkin head costume should obviously be painted in orange and green. Inside the pumpkin, the fleshy parts should be pale yellow. To make the pumpkin head costume more interesting, I’ve painted the eyes and teeth in the same color. The pupils and the teeth were painted darker than the flesh part, so they still show through the next layers of paint. Dark lines were added to make the outline of the pumpkin head costume more visible.
How do you make a fake pumpkin head costume?
You can use plastic pumpkins, or even a real one. You need to cut it open and remove the seeds. Then you can paint the inside of the pumpkin head costume with acrylic paints in any color you want.
The best way I’ve found is to take an actual pumpkin (or buy one) and carve out all the insides. This leaves you with a hollow shell that you can then fill with whatever you like. It’s easy to find instructions on how to do this online.
If you’re looking for something more realistic, you could try making your own “pumpkin head costume” using clay.
How do you make a round pumpkin head costume?
I did this for Halloween last year. I used a plastic pumpkin, and cut off the top with a hacksaw (you can use an electric one if you want). Then I drilled holes in the bottom of it to let out steam when baking. The lid was just a piece of cardboard that I taped onto the top.
The trick is to have the right size pumpkin head costume. If yours is too big then it will be hard to get the shape right. Also, don’t forget to drill some holes in the bottom to allow steam to escape.
How do you make the pumpkin head costume look like a human skull?
This took me about two hours to do. First, I bought a plastic pumpkin. Next, I cut off the top and removed the seeds. Then I covered the inside with white paper. After that, I drew the facial features on the paper. Once that was done, I traced over the drawing with a pencil. Finally, I colored the whole thing in with markers.
To make the pumpkin head costume look like the skull, I used a black permanent marker to trace around the outside of the pumpkin head costume. After that, I filled in the rest of the space with white chalkboard paint. I also added a few small details such as the eye sockets and the teeth.
How do you make a ghostly pumpkin head costume?
To make the pumpkin look spooky, I used a black marker to trace around the outer edge of the pumpkin. Then I filled in the middle with white chalkboard paint and left it to dry. After that, I painted the eyes with black paint and outlined them with a black marker. For the hair, I used a black felt tip pen.
For the eyes, I used a black eyeliner. I then drew the eyebrows with a black marker. To finish, I painted the lips with red lipstick.
To make the ghostly appearance, I used a black sharpie to draw on the eyes and the lips. I then added a few shadows to the eyes and a light shadow to the lips.
